Testimonial from Kathy M., adult patient

I highly recommend Schroth Spinal Physical Therapy of NJ to anyone seeking relief from scoliosis. I tried PT, yoga for scoliosis, and a personal trainer while searching for a Schroth therapist and none of them worked for me. I was convinced that Schroth would  be the best approach, simply because it makes sense. SSPT of NJ has far exceeded my hopes and expectations.

Deirdre has worked miracles with my back! She is highly skilled in assessing your needs and tailoring treatment and exercises to meet them and her knowledge and passion for Schroth keeps you motivated. I actually look forward to going!

At 68, I know that my curve will not be completely corrected. However, I have seen it reduced significantly and have learned exercises to make adjustments to manage the pain on my own. I am eternally indebted to Deirdre and SSPT of NJ for sharing their expertise with me so that I may look forward to living a relatively pain-free life.

I am so grateful to Schroth Spinal Physical Therapy and especially to Deirdre for the quality of life that has been restored to me because of this therapy.  At the age of 73, I don’t know if my curve will really “correct” but I do believe I can keep it from getting worse by doing the exercises Deirdre has taught me.  In the past, I would have been in much pain in my back and ribs by mid-day of cooking for Thanksgiving.  This year I only had discomfort toward the very end of a whole day on my feet at the kitchen counter. I took a break to do my Schroth exercises and was good as new. Six months ago I couldn’t take a one mile walk without returning home in pain.  Now, I enjoy my three mile walk with no discomfort at all. Deirdre is kind, patient, and immensely knowledgable.  I can’t recommend her and this practice more highly.

“I can highly recommend Deirdre and Amy. My son was diagnosed with a 20-degree Cobb angle a year ago at the age of 15. While not severe, we were told by doctors that because boys’ spines continue to grow, it would be best to monitor the situation for a couple of years and do everything we could to prevent his curvature from developing further. Unfortunately, we received mixed advice on how to do that, with one doctor recommending chiropractic intervention while the other recommending physical therapy, but with no additional guidance. Through online research I discovered that the Schroth method of physical therapy was the best intervention for scoliosis, and located Amy and Deirdre. My son’s work with them has been transformative. A year later, not only has his curvature not progressed, but his latest x-ray showed a 16-degree Cobb angle—possibly within a margin of error, but to a mom, a margin in the right direction!

Amy and Deirdre are consummate professionals: they are well trained, knowledgeable about all sorts of things, always on time, and very flexible with scheduling. (Because we do not have anyone trained in the Schroth method in our area, we drive 45 minutes each way from PA and appreciate that we can have evening appointments.) They also accept my insurance and I receive 50% coverage for each visit. In sum, I cannot sing their praises enough. There are very few PTs trained in this method across the U.S. I feel extremely lucky that they bring so much knowledge and care to their practice and that they have been able to help my son function pain free, while at the same time helping arrest further curvature through their work. The exercise training they have given my son will help him for the rest of his life.”

Testimonial from Jess L., parent

“Deirdre has been amazing with my daughter and the office is comfortable and inviting. She really knows her stuff and has helped my daughter immensely. She is very professional, friendly, and encouraging. Although my daughter was likely finished growing when her scoliosis was diagnosed, we wanted to make sure it didn’t get worse. Over the course of 3-4 months of Schroth PT, it did not get worse at all and may have even corrected a little. Her doctor says we no longer need to worry. But the most important outcome for us is that she really helped my daughter reduce her pain. Of course she will have to continue to do the exercises if she wants to keep it that way, she now has the knowledge to do so on her own. We can’t thank her enough!”

“I just wanted to take a moment to say how happy my family is with Schroth Spinal Physical Therapy of NJ. Possessing a thorough knowledge of scoliosis, Deirdre McCarthy has helped our daughter immensely.  Helping a preadolescent “teen” feel comfortable and secure with her body all the while dealing with her scoliosis is no easy task.  Deirdre’s kindness coupled with her specific treatment plan of therapeutic exercises for our daughter, in a short time, had increased her strength and range of motion.  Our commitment to help our daughter understand and adjust to her new “daily norm”,  giving her the tools she needs to maintain her health has been well founded here.  While insurance doesn’t always cover what life deals you, Schroth Spinal Physical Therapy is worth every penny.  The tools, practices, patience, and considerable caring is always apparent and it is there very tools that will help our daughter alleviate potential discomfort in her continuing formidable years and beyond.  Our family wholeheartedly recommends Deirdre and her entire staff.”

Testimonial from H. M., parent

We were very lucky to have found Deidre for my son’s scoliosis. Although his curve was not that big to warrant a surgery, we were told by his doctors to monitor the curve as he went through his growth spurt, and then if required go through a brace and surgery.  Having been through two surgeries myself for scoliosis, I was determined to find a better way of managing my son’s scoliosis. Through online research we found out about the Schroth method. There are only a few physical therapists who are trained in the Schroth method and that’s how we found Deidre and Amy. We are extremely pleased with Deidre and the amount of time she spends at each appointment to make my son feel comfortable and explain all the exercises so that he can continue the program at home. She is very professional and caring and we highly recommend her.

Testimonial from R.V., parent

Our daughter was born with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele, Bi-Lateral clubbed feet, Arnold Chiari Malformation Type II, and Hydrocephalus.
During infancy she also developed a slight case of torticollis. In recent years, she developed a worsening case of scoliosis due to growth spurts, her NTD, and the disadvantages of Covid lockdown and virtual learning.
We have been working with Amy Higgins since our daughter was eight months old through early intervention.
My daughter is now 13 and Amy is a constant that we always turn to for physical therapy and advice for our daughter’s care. We have always had an excellent experience with Amy. Amy is professional, and dedicates herself to continuing education and making sure that she always brings the best care and resources to her patients. Amy is also very diverse in her experience, and has a network of providers, professionals, and vendors that she works with closely to support her patients on their wellness journey. We cannot say enough wonderful things about Amy and Deirdre, and how thankful we are they came together to create this practice and the difference it’s made in our daughter’s care. Our daughter would not be where she is today without Amy’s help and services along the way.
